My 2001 4x4 f150 supercrews ac has been switching from ac to defrost when I accelerate and kicks back to blowing out the vents when the motor levels out. Has anyone had this problem and if so what was the fix.
Actually, the best place to look is under the hood. There is a small black plastic vacuum line that is routed between the battery and the firewall (it then goes through the firewall) that is a common failure.
Inspect the line. If a leak is found, the bad section can be cut out and replaced with a short length of bulk rubber line that is available at any auto parts store. Just take a short section of the plastic line into the store with you nad test fit it into the rubber hose to make sure you get the correct size.
Yup - had this same problem - the vacumn resorvoir is behind the battery holder and the hard vacumn line passes within a few inches of the battery on the firewall side - get a little battery acid on it over time and it gets hard, cracks, and eventually breaks.
