Should I chip my 250?

It's a 97 model.

Id like to put a chip/tuner and exhaust in my vehicle, but I'm worried
about my E4OD. The truck has 185K on it and has been taken very good
care of. Will my E4OD hold up to a chip/tuner and exhaust with the
stock converter? What about with an aftermarket t/c?

Also, will the valves and springs mod weaken or strengthen my transmission?

since i drive a stick, but know what other people do for thier autos, find the Sonnex valve and tricumulator spring setup (maybe search for it on the forum) to give the tranny some strength/better shifting? (someone correct me if i'm wrong). can't help ya much on exhaust other than talk to Dale at TYMAR performance and get ahold of his 3''-4'' downpipe. i have it, went together well. after that, i have my customstacks setup. my next step is a chip. wither a Diablo Delta flip chip or a TS Performance 6 position. but, either way, those are gonna have to wait...just got new shoes for the truck...

Mine seems to work fine, but i would suggest the Sonnax valve and springs like Redstroker mentioned. Need a set of gauges (pyro, boost and trans temp). I'm a fan of the Deltachip as well. Check out my signature, over 200k and still on the stock tranny.

Hey Max, did you notice a big difference between stock and the chip? i'm curious as to how much a "seat of the pants" difference it makes. i know when my turbo spools up after each shift, it will move along pretty quick, and thats just stock. sometimes i wish i had an auto....but a stick will do.

A chip or tuner makes a heck of a difference, but unfourtunatly (sp?) you can only get 220 or so rwhp due to the small injectors. unless you have a truck made for cali emissions.

i think Jody Tipton's programming with Fuel-7 will add 140. as far as i know, thats the best you can get anywhere from just a chip.

The chip makes a huge difference, especially with the right supporting mods (exhaust, intake, etc.), but you really need gauges before any type of chip. If you are really serious about making huge amounts of HP, get ready to buy a better tranny like a BTS. You can keep your stock injectors and go propane injection, custom chip and get over 300rwhp total.

yeah, i've got the pyro gauge. eventually when money allows, a boost gauge. not gonna throw huge amounts of HP at my truck. its got 204K on it and i'd like to make it last for a while if i can. right now, id like to give it a little more spunk eventually. a PS2K would be nice, but can't afford all those goodies right now.

220 RWHP total, the 94-97 trucks have small injectors and you wont get a whole lot of HP out them without an upgrade, myself and luke have both upgraded, i am a bit over 300RWHP and i am sure he is near 425RWHP. A good chip will outperform a tuner anyday, and i dont know any tuner for the 7.3 that will deliver 110 extra HP, whether they say it or not. that 220 RWHP is about 50 up from stock though, and is a good start. I ran my truck with a chip and stock injectors for a while.

I bought the microtuner for my '96 and the results were marginal.

I am not impressed with the "performance gains."
