Question What is this sensor?

I removed my air filter box to put in a napa 6637 air filter and there was this little sensor thing in the side of the air box, what is it for? I just set it under the new air filter. Should I put it somewhere else? Thanks for you help and for the help yesterday.

Ambient air temperature sensor, I think. Somebody who works on these trucks for a living please correct me here if I'm wrong, I am guessing that the Intake Air Temperature sensor is the one mounted in the Y-pipe next to the wastegate control valve.

You are right Kiwk. That is the ambient air temp thermocouple. Im not sure about the sensor in the Y pipe though.

When I did the upgrade to the Ford AIS kit, I took the old thermocouple out of the old housing to keep as a spare for the AIS. Twist it 90 degrees and it pops out of the housing.

Just tie-wrap the thermocoupler up so it gets the free air. If you are getting the NAPA filter you can (if you want to) take the filter minder and put it in the top of the NAPA. Just drill a hole in the plastic top, CLEAN OUT THE DEBRIS and pop the minder in.

You mean the one that's threaded in to the Y-manifold? That's the intake air heater.

You can see my sawed off Intake air heater in the upper left corner of the picture. The one that I am speaking of is the one down in the lower right mounted right next to the MAP signal tube.

I know it's semantics, but just for accurate terminology.

The IAT (intake air temp) sensor is the one plugged in to the intake box. The one pictured is the MAT (manifold air temp) sensor.
