I installed Dynomax headers and 2 ¼” exhaust on my truck over the weekend. A few things I learned:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
1: Dad’s are invaluable when working on vehicles. (And any other time, really.)
2: Instead of jacking up the engine, we put a jack under the transmission to lift up the engine enough to insert the right side header. (Without unbolting anything.)
3: Take the length of time you THINK will be needed for the job, and multiply by 4.
4: A sawsall works really well for removing rusty old exhausts.

I didn’t get the performance I thought I would. There is a slightly noticeable difference, like throttle response, but nothing like I was hoping for. A set of glass packs will come later. These mufflers are too quiet. J It will get a complete tune after I install the re-curve kit this week. Hopefully then I can get the performance I was hoping for.
Headers/mufflers alone will not provide much on the "seat-o-pants" meter
They allow air out, but until you put more air in and burn it hotter, there will not be significant increase.
BTW...I pretty much spent an entire Saturday installing my headers and dual exhaust . What a pain.........luckily a welder/torches AND sawsall helped my project along...
I already have the more air in and hotter spark taken care of:
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with 1405 carb
Pertronix electronic ignition with upgraded coil
i installed my headers that i got from jegs a few weekends ago. i jacked up the enging to get the left side on, beucase my new starter was in the way. then my clutch was not pushing all the way in beucase the flange was blocking were the linkage is. everything is bolted on now. and im gonna get some flex pipe right off the headers and my dad says then get mufflers , not glasspacks. what would you guys reccomend getting? mufflers or glasspacks.
It's personal preference on wether to get mufflers or glasspacks. Glasspacks are less restrictive at the expense of noise. I prefer glasspacks, but that's because my truck has had them for over 20 years. I got used to the way it sounded. Now with mufflers it is MUCH quieter. My dad likes it a lot better. I want it louder.
