i'm looking for a new TC for my a4ld and a shift kit if there is one for my trans.
i was looking at a 94 explorer a4ld what would i need to do in order to make that trans work i know there is a difference in valve body solenoids.
anybody know any sites where i can find parts.
There is a company called Transmission Exchange Company out of Portland, Oregon that I have used numerous times for A4LD parts. They also have shift kits. Their telephone number is 800-776-1191 and their web-site is www.txchange.com
They have always been able to help me and have often been able to provide me with good used parts rather than new ones. Their service has been great for me.
"i was looking at a 94 explorer a4ld what would i need to do in order to make that trans work i know there is a difference in valve body solenoids." -- The major practical difference (as far as fitting it in) between a '94 4.0 A4LD and an '87 2.9 A4LD is in the 3-4 shift control. On an '87, 3-4 shift is vacuum controlled. On a '94, it is electronically controlled. The main thing you would need to do to fit a '94 A4LD behind your '87 2.9 is devising some way of commanding the 3-4 shift. I've heard of "pressure" switches that can command the 3-4 shift based on engine vacuum. I would also consider just commanding it manually (with a toggle switch).
