Dave, been ther done that with a 1/2 ton 1979 with a 460.
saged a little but pulled it no prob. And the Az end of the tractor was hangin off the trailer. I guaranty if you put that trailer on my truck it wouldnt have any issues either. BtW I had no time to stop O zilch nada trailer brakes or not.
OOps who started talkin bout brakes anyway. 4 cords weight 22000 # conservative
With all this weight on there constantly I heard that the wheels will start to bow which is bad.
I've only carried up to 2000 lbs on this shortbox 3000 on my last 03 longbed.
They sag very very little but when I drive away from the material yard it doesn't know that it is hauling somthing.
If you are on the flat all the time and you would have to have at least 1000 lbs in the back with good studded tires soft compound... Any hills will be your trouble but the weight will make all the difference...with my sander full 5000 lbs I don't need 4wd. Also a locker would make alot of difference...
Thanks Dick,
I'm trying to move to MN. Daughter just had 1st Grandson & Grandma got to see him more. Being from Ft. Worth {99 yesterday in shade} we see 1 inch a year of snow and 3" of ice. I have driven on good snow in MN but not with plow. I'll keep those suggestions maby I can use them Upon our residence there. I know 4x4 would be nice but they too, get stuck in certain situations. Just ask my son-n-law, Crazy Eddie
Someone said something about axle ratings earlier.
The 250 and 350 have the same rear axle and springs.
The dually has the same rear axle, but the housing is 4" wider to let the inside tires clear the springs.
As far as stopping, when you get brake shoes and pads, get the good ones not the cheappy ones and drive it like it is a truck.
Why do you say the rear axles are the same? According to all the published specs for 2005 the rear axles are not the same. The 250 rear axle is rated at 6200lbs, the 350 srw 7280lbs and the 350 drw 9000 lbs. Are you saying these specs are not true or are you just unaware of them? The springs are the same for the 250 and the 350 srw according to specs with a slight difference for the 350 drw.
The only real difference between a 250 and 350 is the 250 has a 2" block on the axle under the rear springs and the 350 has a 4" block. Those blocks are 70 dollars from Ford. But the difference in price between the 350 and 250 is way more than 70 dollars.
Go figure.
I give up. Someone else should look up the specs for the 2005 250 and the 350's. The rear axle ratings are indeed different with weight ratings of 6200lbs for the 250, 7280 lbs for the 350 srw and 9000 lbs for the 350 drw. These axle differences may not be the same for pre-2005 models, I do not have those specs and pre-2005 model differences may be where some of the confusion comes from. Are those folks who keep insisting that the axles are the same talking about pre-2005 models? Has anyone actually checked the specs? If the rear axles are the same for the 250 and the 350 can someone please tell me why the published specs state otherwise?
That's great! What I want to know is could any of you guys stop you your heavily loaded trucks? I carried and towed massive loads with my 83 F250 with 300 six but I needed two feet on the pedal and two more draggin' on the road to stop it!
I keep a boat anchor on the passenger seat and toss it out the window about 100yards before each stopsign. Its a real pain to get out and reel it back in though...
Since I got no owners manual with my 99' F-250 S/D w/ long box I have no idea how much it can hold. However, just yesterday I had 2 yards of oak mulch dumped into it, and this mulch was so wet you could almost ring it out. Needless to say, my truck sank about 5" from its original "stock" height.
I carried what was refered to as a "full lift" of oak flooring. It was basically a solid 4x4x8 block of various length oak strips on a pallet. They loaded it in my bed with a fork lift. I have no idea what it weighed, but it was a lot! The truck sagged just a bit. I drove 45 miles at highway speed with it loaded like that!
