What's the best way to clean my engine? I bought it used and it's got some gummy areas around old (and maybe current) leaks. I'd like to clean those areas and watch them for leaks.
Should I just use EngineBrite? Is there anything I should avoid spraying it (and the rinse water) on? Any better alternatives?
I would go with some good old simple green... biodegradeable.... and works awsome.... i would sway away form all electrical stuff, as well as the belt, air cleaner, and be carefull around the turbo.... with the simple green- hose down your engine, then break out an old sock and put it on over your hand, give everything a nice coat of the simplegreen (available in consintrated eng. degreaser spray bottle) and scrup up everything... let it sit for a while, then spray cleen... make sure the eng is cold too first... hope this helps
get the simple green auto de-greaser, i think it works better than the simple green consentrate, but who knows, it may be the same thing in a different bottle. anywho, i found it at autozone. it do work with a little elbo-grease!
yea simple green, learned that the hard way. i went and got some "Auto Zone" brand egine cleaner and sprayed it all over the engine, turns out all that crap is, is kerosene in a can. my trucked reeked of it for months
Yeah I cleaned up a lawnmower with that stuff a while back. Seemed like it stank up the whole neighborhood and left a big stain on my driveway. I wasn't looking forward to using that on my truck. Simple Green sounds (and smells) much better.
