Hello, I have a '98 EB with the 5.4L 4WD. I stopped to get gas(I had 1/4 tank) I shut the truck off and filled it. When I started it it would not idle and if I hold my foot on the gas it runs but not good at all. If I take my foot off the gas it stalls. It was running great before this. Any ideas. its still at the gas station.
Could be that you throttle body needs to be cleaned out. Possibly just a coincidence that it happened at the same time you filled up. Both of my Expeditions had similar symptoms and cleaning out the throttle body cleared it right up.
I seriously doubt it, but you didn't put diesel in instead of gas did ya? That happened to my dad a few years ago here in oregon where it's illegal for us "mere citizens" to pump our own gas. The stupid pump jockey put diesel in his van instead of regular. Luckily he caught it before he fired it up. The gas station had to drain and flush his fuel system.
It would run like crap if you accidentally put diesel in. I know, I put some gas in my street bike that was partially a mix of gas and diesel. It ran horribly and wouldn't idle.
No I put gas in it. I just bought a code reader and I am getting 4 codes. P0136, P0156 and 2 I dont know what they mean P1131 and P1151. I know what the 0136 and 0156 mean. Anyone know about the other 2?
Update: I found a big vacum hose disconnected behind the engine. I don't know how it got that way. It was the cause of my problems. Thanks to everyone.
I had all of these codes come up too and the car would hardly idle. The guy at Auto zone tried to sell me $200 worth of parts to fix every code that popped up. The solution was a $5.00 PCV 90 degree hose connector on the back of the intake. It had worn a hole in and was taking in the extra air causing a lean condition.
Thanks to everyone for their help on a place to start searching for the problem.
