pyrometer bouncing around

i have Autometer pyrometer and it reads fine awhile then it bounces around like crazy.when it stops bouncing its goes right to where the reading should be it just bounces around. i looked at the thermocouple the shrink wrap over the connection is good but the braided part is touching the turbo pipe is that the problem? i looked for ground wire getting loose it was tight. is the gauge junk?

If the braided part is worn down to the actual wire it is probably the problem. If not, Id send the gauge to autometer and have them check it out. Usually only costs a few bucks, and 9 times out of 10 they will send you a new gauge.

I had the same problem a while back with my pyrometer. Found the connection at the thermocouple to be somewhat loose. Tightened it up and it fixed it. Check at the gauge end too.
