I was a good forum-er and I looked at the sticky first... and it only has the OBD II codes (though I am unsure if they would be the same... I doubt it though).
I had a co-worker pull the codes on my truck and here are the results.
Engine off, key on: 14, 31, 41, 88
Engine on, key on: 21
Can anybody tell me what these are, and what needs work?
Thanks Rock, I wasn't sure if EEC were the same as OBD I codes. I appreciate it.
So here is what I came up with...
14- Two or more successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.
21- ECT out of self test range 0.3 to 3.7 volts.
31- PFE or EVP circuit below minimum voltage of 0.24 volts.
41- No HEGO switching detected always lean (right side).
88- Electro-drive fan circuit failure
Gee... what is this stuff??? I haven't heard of any of this (HEGO, ECT, and electro-drive fan circuit).
The thing that would concern me the most right now is the 14 code, it relates to the crankshaft position sensor signal (PIP) which is a critical signal, it is essentially it's where it all begins regarding the electronic distributorless ignition system (DIS) on your 2.3L.
How is the truck running? If things seem OK then you might want to erase the codes and drive around for a while and see what comes back. Keep in mind too that the 21 code can be set if the engine wasn't up to operating temperature when the EEC testing was performed. The other codes may be related or may not be - the 31 code is an EGR system code (does your truck even have an EGR system?) and a faulty EGR system could cause a lean condition on the right side and hence the 41 code. Or, there could be a slight vacuum leak on the right side, or the 02 sensor could even be shot on that bank (is it the original?).
Yes, mine does have an EGR valve. Should I go ahead and swap it out for a new one (trucks got 130k miles on it)? I hear it's a pain to get too.
The truck runs fine, and has not been giving me any problems at all, he just happened to have that reader with him yesterday at work... so I thought, why not?
