Negative battery cable location

I've got a weird one for you. My negative battery cable on the driver's side battery broke off wherever it was connected (frame or engine) and wrapped around my steering shaft causing it to bind up my steering. Now I don't know if the cable broke first and then wrapped around the steering shaft or vice versa. I'm just grateful that I wasn't out on the road when it finally bound up and wouldn't turn at all.

My question is: where does that battery cable connect to? I cannot find the spot where it broke off. Does it ground on the frame or the engine? And also this particular cable has a two-wire pigtail connection on it. Does anybody know what that connection is for?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

My Drivers side Neg cable connects to my Engine Block, I replaced it when I got my Pickup and I had to route it right beside the Overfill bottle, not sure where it was stock, but it has worked for about 1 month driving back and forth to work everyday.

If you put info re truck year in your signature it helps us, go to quick links at the top and Edit Signature.

The large Neg battery cables connect to the bottom front corners of the block, the pigtails go to the rad support on the drivers side and the frame on the pax side.

The main negative wires connect to the engine from both batteries. The pigtails are to ensure the frame and the body have negative contact also. Unless you have pigtils I'm not aware of on your cable(s).

Thank you for the location information, I`ve hooked up a new neg. cable and rerouted it so if it ever comes off again it will not interfere with the steering. I really think that it is extremely dangerous that the cable is so near the steering shaft. I know that my cable breakage and subsequent wrap around the shaft was freaky but it could have locked up when I was driving on the city streets and possibly hurt me or the car I would have hit. Thanks again sir for you info.
