Switching to Solid Lifter Cam

I am switching to a solid lifter cam and I am wondering if any of you know which oil port to plug for the oil supply to the lifters?

Also is this step even necessary or does it just supply extra oil where it is not needed?

I have a 390.

The cannels that you would block off are the ones that run on the left and right side of the center galley. They are fed by a port near the back of the block. I would just have my machine shop cap these before they do the block clean-up.

If you are going to use the shell type lifters, on mods are needed...If using the dumbell style, you need to plug the two holes into the centre gallery...Use the same plugs used to block the front of the gallery, or if the block is at the machine shop, have them install threaded plugs, which are easier to remove if you decide to change back....D44hd

I just did this

I used shell lifters which restricts the oil to the lifters and I used a Holley carb jet to restrict down the oil feed hole to the rockers. I did this as I was not tearing down the bottom end and and did not want any machining processes done to the block that might cause metal chips. I'm happy with my set up. Depending on the oil pump that you use, if you used dumbell lifters and a high volume pump with a stock oil pan, you could literally suck the oil from the pan and have it all at the top of the engine, starving those poor bottom end bearings.

I just did this on my engine, but I am still building mine. I am using solid lifters (dumbell style). I had to drill the oil galley hole out to get a to thread it to fit a 1/8 inch plug in it and just taped out the top to 1/4 inch. my suggestion is tape out both holes and install threaded plugs if your using dumbell style lifters, If you use just press in style plugs you take a good rick of the oil pushing out the plugs. need any pics just let me know still have my engine apart.
