Here lately I've been latching on to some decent loads and flying down the road with no problems at all. Last weekend I hauled a backhoe and some pipe around 200 miles just cruising right along. I guess the load was around 15K a buddy of mine said it was around 17K. (Please don't tell me about overloading the truck, cause I don't care to hear it.) We'll just say its not the first time. And last night I had to make a 220 mile round trip to pick up a truck with a smoked tranny. The total load was around 12K and towed it fine. It did shift a time or two cause the hills were short and steep. Didn't give the turbo enough time to spool up. And tomorrow I have a small load lined up. Man I need a F350.
But this tuned 6.0 pulls like no other, I just give a little nod to the D00dges and Chevys as I pass.
I'm pulling a 32 foot Boston Whaler with twim mercs. The boat and motors weigh 10,000 lbs, the 300 gallons of fuel weighs 2100 lbs and the trailer weighs 1600 lbs. It will not lock up in OD, but still pulls the load just fine at 70 mph. Fortunately, I have disc brakes on all 3 axles, so it will also stop pretty well, but I do notice a very large drop in fuel mileage . I think the wind resistance hurts more than the weight. The rig is 13' 6" high and 10' 4" wide.
My grandfather hauls with a 03' f-350 duallie 6.0, pulls a 24ft cattle trailer and a 30ft flatbed. Loads 'er up with a hell of a lot more than recommended weight. A load of hay is like 18,000-22,000lbs depending on the bales. The truck pulls like a son of a gun, like a good ol' boy. He goes fast too. If you have a good trailer and a good fixation to the truck, the 6.0 pulls great.
Don't tell anybody but I pulled over 20k of drywall the other day. It made the 18k rated trailer squat. Before you get all worked up, I pulled it about 1.687 miles from the supply yard to the jobsite. Well, it was Home Depot and their delivery program needs some work. I needed it and they couldn't get it to me quick enough even with half a day's notice. Anyway, I don't think I would regularly haul that much weight behind my truck (legality aside - it was over working the truck). But, it was good to know that the ol girl would pull it. If I did pull the max allowed for that truck I would think the 4.10s would be a must. Getting going was really slow going.
