Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to change the oil pressure switch on a 92 4.0L engine? I know where it is (I Think) but how I could get at it is a mystery.
I am unfamiliar with the 4.0L V6, but if it's located in the same place as on the 3.0L V6, it's a breeze once you remove the engine access cover inside the van.
To remove the access cover, you will first have to unscrew the center console or those hokey cup holders (depending on how your van is equipped. There is also a black electronics box under the dash immediately above the access cover that also has to be unscrewed so you can remove the access cover once it's unlatched.
My Haynes manual shows four latches on the engine access cover - two on the driver side & two on the passenger side. My 95 Aerostar only has one on the driver side, though for a total of three.
It takes a bit of practice to get the cover back in position once you are finished - the top edge tends to hang up inside the hole.
Good luck with your repairs.
Cheers,
Eric
edit: I just read the other thread on oil pressure sending units. Please disregard the above.

Also, the oil pressure switch on the 4.0L is extremely well hidden below the P/S pump. I suspect one must take the pump and bracket off to remove that switch, unless you have extremely small dextrous hands and fingers with 10 joints instead of 3. On the other hand, don't blame the switch yet. Pull the connector off and clean it well. That's all it took for me.

And on the 3.0L engine its behind the engine cover on the passenger side of the engine its a brass colored (goldish) colored plastic can with a metal bolt at the base so it can be removed with a wrench it protrudes 1 1/4" from the engine block and has a wire connected to the top of it with a bolt.
Once you've loosened it just unscrew it by hand to get it out of the block.
Although if yours is old it will be grimy and black like everything else .

Hi there, the oil pressure sender unit is were copper said it is, you have to use a short ring wrench to get at it, I forget which size it is but I thing it is 19,20 or 22mm and it does come out easy once you have it lose make sure you put pipe thread tape on it when you put it back.
