if you don't wanna cut the dash, get the secret audio setup and install it in the dash, under the seat, heck even in the tool box in the bed. I personally don't care about cutting the dash. I am not restoring mine, so I am not afraid of a little cut.
you could get the factory looking stereo thing and use a CD changer with it.
Convenient mounting and so many choices for placement!
Secretaudio is a three piece hidden audio system that offers great flexibility for mounting in any type of vehicle. The main receiver/amplifier unit is usually hidden under the seat, or behind the dash. A 12ft cord from the unit plugs into a LCD display. The small dimensions of the LCD display offer unlimited mounting options. The LCD display can be mounted in the glove box, ash tray, sun visor, console or ? included with the system are a flush mount bezel for console or dash mounting. The third piece to this system is the wireless remote control. The secretaudio SS model remote is a RF (radio frequency) remote. With the RF remote you do not have to be in direct line with the display. In fact, you can use the RF remote from up to 40 feet away, and control all functions of the system and even the optional 10 disc changer. The secretaudio S-1 model is an IR (infra red) remote control. With the IR remote, you need to point it at the LCD display to operate the system. This IR remote also works all functions of the system and the optional 6 disc changer. The Secretaudio system works exclusively with the custom autosound cd changers. Other brands of changer will not work with this system
I put a am/fm cdplayer in the glove box of my 70. Used an old gun rack for bracket parts. I needed to take the liner out and had to be very sure of placement so the wiper arms diddnt hit. Then I just cut a piece of rug and hide all the ugly.
Good Luck. I really like this installation because if you look inside the truck you cant see anything but the stock radio. I will post a pic in my Gallery of the finished deal.
i just got another radio bezel off of ebay, and ground the back off of it so that i could fit the slieve for the new radio, then used the 2 screws to hold it to the dash, and on the back of most radio's there's a bolt that you can attach a wire or metal bracket.
the whole thing cost about $10, took about 1 hour, and looks good.
my cd is under the seat so that was even easier.the only problem is bending the stock arms back behind the dash.i was going to cut them off but ran out of wheels for the grinder.
