stereo equipment
All my amps are custom placed under the rear bench seat. I have a Nakamichi CD, AudioControl EQL, MTX Crossover, MTX Thunder4160 running Mids and Highs, and Alpine bridged mono running Bazooka Tubes.
P.S. I've personaly blown alot of tweeters and i replace them with "Radio Shack Surface mount Tweeters" they work just as good as the infinity tweeters i previosly had before. and they're only $20 a pair.
To get the stock radio out, get the DIN Removal tools (I borrowed them from the Ford garage, but even WalMart sells them) and pop the stereo right out. I am assuming that the '93 is the same as the '95 (4 small holes). Mine was stuck on the passenger side - didn't want to come out. I popped the glove compartment open (pop it down all the way) and stuck my hand in there to help release the little clips that hold the stereo in. It's a tight fit if you've got big hands, but it needs to be done sometimes.
Now, for a decent system: My truck took 6.5" speakers in the doors and 5x7 speakers in the rear. I bought all new Blaupunkt Overdrive (3-way, 200W peak) speakers for all 4 corners. Make sure you either get the factory speaker adapters or else you'll end up cutting the factory harness and soldering the new wires on. I recommend buying everything through Crutchfield, as they will include EVERYTHING (trim kits, manuals, DIN tools, etc.)
For a CD changer/Cassette player, I bought a Sony Xplod CDX-737 10-disc CD changer and mounted it underneath the middle front seat in my truck. May not work if you have bucket seats. I got the Xplod CDX-7350 Tape deck/tuner/cd-controller for the dash. Looks good, sounds great. Has 2 sets of preamps and the built-in CD-changer controls. Even without amps installed it will blow away the stock system - believe me.
I will soon have amps and subs ordered, and will install all of them underneath the back seat... but so far I have under $525.00 invested and I have one heck of a system. Hope this helps a little.

Check out September 2000 issue of Truckin' magazine they did an upgrade on a 99 F-150 Ext Cab. And used all Pioneer components (amp, front speakers, & rear speakers, plus an 8 inch sub in a custom built box under the back seat.

Look under the tech section for the 25th anniversary project truck.
Good luck
also can you get to these speakers through the factory grill or do you have to pull the entire rear panel?
All you have to do is remove the four screws holding the speaker grille on the rear panels, and the whole speaker / grille assembly will come out. take the four screws out of the back of the speaker and take it off of the grille.
I got the Pioneer 6x8 inch speakers from Summit Racing. The part number Summit lists is:
PNR-TS-A6813
The price is $79.95 a pair & Summit only charges 6.95 for shipping. (no handling charge) And everything is shipped UPS ground unless you want it faster.
These are good speakers, I put a set in my reg cab 88 F-150 when I installed the Pioneer CD player. I'll have to replace the front 5 1/4" speakers now as they are almost blown out! I have no idea what the front speaker size is for a 92-96 model but you can probably find a good speaker that will fit the factory opening so you don't have to cut your doors all up.
Hope this helps
