Interior & Headliner Kits
I am planning on doing all of the interior on our '41 myself and was wondering if anyone has used a do it yourself headliner kit?
I found one for our truck at macsautoparts.com and was thinking that the kit would be a good starting base for a custom interior. I'm wanting to do a seamless interior and my thoughts are that I could use the kit as a base to build up from.
Do the kits come covered already with foam & material?
Is the Board sturdy enough to glue additional board & foam to?
I don't plan on tackling this until after tax season is over, but would like to begin ordering supplies.
Any help or suggestions if greatly appreciated.
Almost forgot - I've never done this before, but have been doing alot of reading on it and nothing addresses beginning with a kit. Want to do it myself cause we're doing everything else ourselves. Currently reupholstering the Vecarro bucket seats we're gonna put in the truck and they're turning out great. Will post before/after photos of that project in my gallery probably next month.

Actually looking for something a little more detailed regarding building up to create a custom interior but using a kit as my starting point.
I've seen the kit in other 40-41 trucks and it looks nice, but they square off in the corners. I want something to flow with rounded corners of the cab so I'll either have to do it myself or pay an arm & a leg to have it done at an auto upholstry place. Wanna be different without going broke.

Hope this is kindof what you were wondering about. I am not always on the same page but this is just what I got finished doing to my truck this week. I had completly gutted my truck out with the old conversion and put in a whole new interior. Very trying at times but the effort paid off as many have thought that I sent the truck out to be done professionally.
You need to set up your gallery and post some pict's of your interior, I'd love to see it.

There is a special product called *masonite* it comes in 1/8" & 1/4"
thivkness. it's like pegboard withou the holes.
It is relativelt inexpensive and very durable.
Just make sure it is sealed with poly or something so it doesn't absorb condensation.

BTW the 5/32 luan is the material that they make hollow core doors out of so it is rigid. Just not as thick as 1/4 plywood. I have some of the other material that was mentioned in another reply but I opted for the real wood and rigidness for the kickpads on the bottom of the four doors. I have 1/4" material up in the headliner area to attach the custom overhead console and mood lighting brackets too.
Which would be the best board for shaping rounded corners as far as grinding the various cuts to a nice smooth round finish? I want to stay with the shape of the cab and know from checking that the board recommended in the various "how-to" books is on the pricy side. I'm sure it's the same board I can get at Home Depot, but just under a different name.
Also, I just finished reupholstering the sitting part of the Veccaro bucket seat and have but to put the zipper in the upper part before I have one complete seat done. It turned out better than I could have hoped.(My first attempt at this.) Not sure when I'll get around to finishing it cause I'm pretty busy with work now with it being tax season, but I'll post to let you know when I've updated my gallery with before & after pictures.
Thanks for your help.
