What is the difference between my stock headers (99 Powerstroke) and any aftermarket headers? WTF are headers? I asked a local shop what i could do for performance and he said to do headers and exhaust i already have My exhaust but he said i should do headers now.
Your Powerstroke doesn't have headers on it, just exhaust manifolds. and no one sells a set for it. Diesel Innovations made a set a while ago but I don't think they are selling them, I could be wrong though. You wouldn't notice a difference on a turbo diesel unless you are making a lot of horse power. If you wan't more power for your Powerstroke look into performance computer chips. Headers are generaly used on gas motors for a performance increase. Hope this helps some.
Sweet . Thanks to everyone for the info. As you can tell im kinda new to this so bare with me here. So if i bought a chip i would Gain how much more HP? im Looking into do a lot to my Powerstroke but im just getting started so any suggestions will be nice.
Performance chips can have a wide range of power increases, usually 40 - 100+ horsepower. before you chip it though I would get a good exhaust system and intake to help keep the exhaust gas temperatures down. Plus a set of gauges to moniter temps would be a good idea. Hope this helps.
I thought that i had a good exhaust system but come to find out its some like $20 muffler from some crap place, so Iv talking about getting a performance muffler but i have gone to two different shops and one place said that the flowmaster is good cause it has no packing or something like that and the other shop said magnaflows are good cause they are straight through. wouldnt the Flowmaster be really loud without packing? im going to another shop that a friend told me about. he said the techs there know what is good or not.
