i have stock manifolds right now, debating on the gain by getting headers, and wouldnt know what set up would be best. I am going to run dual 3" from the manifolds back, but I have to put high flow cats on....
im not sure what muffler i want to go with, if anyone has a suggestion, all i know is that i dont want flowmaster, I am thinking about a dynomax, Borla, or gibson....
Any of the mufflers you mentioned are good.
Is the 400 stock?

thanks for the input, if u think 3" would be too much, dont u think the cat and muffler would give it enough back pressure?
and how much of a pain in the knuckles would it be to put long tubes in, over shorties, do u think? theres no exhaust on it now except for the manifolds...i just know ppl who say long tubes are great, but set a day to the side to put them on...
Backpressure isnt the problem, the less you have the better. Velocity will probably be affected. Thats why I asked if the motor was stock. A stock 400 will probably be a little happier with smaller pipe. Not to say it wouldnt run great with 3" pipe.
Generally, you are looking for a few ft/lbs of low end torque to move up into the midrange, due to the exhaust gasses being able to make use of the larger pipe and have better velocity at higher RPMs. If you are driving it on the highway a lot, that might be useful for better passing power. Either way, the low end difference is usually not noticeable except on a dyno. Sound will also be deeper with the larger pipe.
All said and done, go with whatever you want.
