i found a nice lil stihl chainsaw on the road one time
and i have found a crosscut saw
numerous gas cans
and i even found a nice fly rod that was still in the package on I-90 when i was at work...i took an early break to run accross the yard at work and accross half of I-90, but it was worth it.
I found a roll-around 13 drawer craftsman tool box filed with snap-on and mac wrenches, tons of pneumatic tools, and a 80 gal. 2 stage air compressor......
Model 721 Ramset stud gun sheetrocked into a wall. Holehog with bolt cutters in a ceiling at a prison, (Scott Peterson's new home) bet that disapointed someone.
i found a handful of craftsman combo wrenches on the side of the road one day, a few were stuck in the dirt, pulled them out and a few were rusted, took them home and still have some of them, had some of them replaced with newer ones
A buddy of mine found a wrench in the bottom of the tranny case of an antique tractor he was restoring about 10 years ago. The tractor had belonged to his father, and ol pops claimed the tranny case had never been opened since he bought it new in the 50's. Wrench was in fine condition, considering it laid in an oil bath for about 40 years! I found a Case pocketknife on a dock when I was five years old, carried it off and on for 25 years, and last year I managed to lay it down (open) on the roof of my skidsteer after I had cut the twine off a round bale. Later that day, I realized what I had done, and retraced my steps, with no luck. I am sure it will turn up someday, probably in a tire! Easy come, easy go, I guess, but dang it, that was a nice knife!
While working for the Navy under the docks in a boat hanging brackets we dropped 16, 1/2" drive 0-150# Proto torque wrenches. They had to be recertified on torque each month. I used a 100 pound pull magnet and recovered 13 of them and was told to "take home" two for personal use. Cleaned them and had the Navy recertify them. Found a 6' high Perry scaffold in the street that was complete.
i work for a mechanicle contractor and over the years i've found a pair of 12"channel locks in a new air handler that i was installing, a pair of duct steatchers above a drop ceiling, an 18" ridged aluminum pipe wrench above a ceiling numerouse screw drivers and to many rolls of duct and electrical tape to count
We always gave the customer's that brought back found tools free stuff. Most the time it was Snap-on and we invested a lot of money in them.
Free stuff, like the tech that lost them?
I've found a two wheeler (middle of the road), hack saw, pliers, ladders (come on secure these people, they aren't fun to drive around/over) though I've never picked up one of these as they are normally causing accidents, and a few other small items.
We found a Snap~on ratchet half sticking out from underneath the engine compartment of a "customers" vehicle. We put in on the bench and he didn't say anything. He left with the vehicle and his father came down to pay. We gave it to his father, and he said he wondered what all his son absconded with this time. This guys father was still having to have his dad, buy him everything big, like a house to live in, his cars. I know this 40 year old and he spends all his money on alcohol.
The father (a close friend of all of us at the garage) has since died, now I look for tools and stuff falling off and out of the son's vehicle when I drive by his house up the street.
I found a nice Snap on 3/8 extention and I ve also found 2 big 15ish ton bottle jacks in the road two diff times. And this isnt a tool but one morning going to work I found 5 gallons of Hersey's chocolate ice cream in a big round carton, it was in June and could nt ,have been there to long I put it in a freezer at work then took it home.
My luck continues, tonight I found an empty 5 gal kerosene jug, the blue kind in great shape. It was all but empty and must have blown out of someones truck. There is a lesson here somewhere for all us pickup owners.

I did building service work for 41 years and found lots of tools above ceiling tiles. Probably came out about even cause I think I lost about as many as I found! When you work all day here and there and above cielings and you find a tool missing at the end of the day it can be impossible to remember where to look.
The best tool I ever found was my own. After high school I worked for coca cola on vending machines. One day I lost my volt meter. Several monjths later I was on a date, we went to see a movie in another town. (for you young guys:back in the day there were no multiplexes, If your town had 1 theater, there was one movie playing in town)
Outside there was a coke machine. Inside the lighted area was an outline of my meter. Went to my truck, got the keys and opened the machine to be reunited.
Brought home my 77 hiboy, was reattaching the ps pump, found a 1/2" craftsman ratchet and socket still attached to the crank. It had rode 100 miles on a flatbed trailer through seattle and tacoma wa without falling off. The ratchet is the older style, with the twist to change directions. I don't know how old, but it says Pat. Pending by the craftsman name.
On a job sight years ago I found a Milwaukee skill saw and a framers leather toolbag loaded with tools. Fortunately I knew the framer they belonged to and was able to return them. He was shocked to get his tools back. Thought they were gone for good.
