engine serial number

engine serial number
I need some help with a serial number on a motor I pulled out. I thought it was a 302 but it has a three bolt harminic balancer? The number is

I dont know for sure maybe some else will, but I believe that is a 289. The first letters in ford are as follows.
A = 40s
B = 50s
C = 60s
D = 70s
E = 80s
F = 90s
so your casting starting with C9 is a 1969 block and 302 was not around in that year. But I hope that some one can cross these numbers, as I do not have my books here right now.
