I have a 73 F-100 std. cab, 2x4, longbox (8-foot bed). I need to get a new speedo cable and haven't removed mine yet. The guys at NAPA say that I need to measure my old one, and they are probably right but seems kinda stupid to me that there isn't a standardized length for this type of pickup (same goes for say a supercab, if that makes any difference). They told me their is four different lenghts (maybe it was 3 or maybe 5, but I know it was more than 2). Maybe I should call Carquest or Bumper to Bumper and see if they have it narrowed down. Ha Ha!
I have the speedo cable out of my '76 /C6 auto. I can measure it when I get home but I think Beartracks is right, depends on your transmission type. Let us know what kind it is.
It is a C6 automatic. I just got my new TCI Streetfighter C6 put in along with the TCI Saturday Night Special torque converter. Now I need to replace the leaking steering gear. Thanks guys...
I measured the cable assembly. That is to say the whole thing from the tip of the driven gear to edge of the metal collar that plugs into the back of the speedo, 73 1/4 inches. The internal steel cable is likely an inch or so shorter.
I'd just get the longest one. I despise my speedo cable, it barely reaches the cluster and is almost impossible to hook up without having 1" diameter arms and tiny hands.
