Okay back ground:
I currently have a 85 f250 straight 6 with a t18/np208f long bed reg cab no lift and 33"
Im swapping to a built motor and zf5-42(smallblock bellhousing)
4wd zf5 in smallblock in my area is easier to find then a factory 4x4 model t.
I picked up a 2wd the other day for about 200$.
Everything is still in my truck, new trans and motor sitting in the bed.
Problem:
Should i find a divorced transfer case and throw it in?
Should i try and machine a cover for the 208 and use it as the slipyoke?
The zf5 has a fixed yoke in the back.
Anybody want to trade with me?
If i divorce it, how much lenght do i need?
Alot of jeep guys do a dual ujoint connector or a 1" driveshaft to keep it short but allow for flex in the driveline due to torque. Others say to put it long enough to center my drivelines, but this is a dd, not a truggy.
You've not gotten any response - probably because no one has good answers. Personally I would hold out for a 4x4 ZF5 rather than go with a divorced t-case. But, if I did a divorced t-case I wouldn't center it but keep it close to the tranny so the rear drive shaft can have gradual angles. You said it is a DD, so you need it to drive well w/o vibrations - and there's no such thing as "good vibrations" when it comes to drive lines.
The mazda wont do it, i still haul alot with this and i dont feel as if the mazda will holdup to my motor. Its a high cr and has the works done to it.
Those are stupid expensive and probably have been sitting for awhile out in the rain.
It will be much cheaper to buy another tcase and do the setup.
Come august time im getting three weeks off, i plan on having it all ready to just swap em both at that time and do all the work.
Thanks though guys!
M5OD, not a good idea. Still better than trying to fab up a divorced setup though.....
Most wrecking yards pull transmissions, and store them indoors. When I bought the NV4500, it was stored inside, strapped to a pallet. Oddly enough, I found it thru the same site Franklin used for these options, and it was local.....
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market Nationwide database of salvage yards, though some smaller yards aren't listed.
I found the NV4500 for $650, with a $25 core. Most yards want over $1K and $300-500 core.......
Sweet thanks.
I forgot a have a bud who works at lkq, might see what he can find me.
I know the manager of the local LKQ. Even he couldn't help me finding an NV4500 for a dodge diesel. But, it can come in handy having an inside contact. I knew within 2 hours of them getting a CRX with a good header panel, and the next morning, I had it already off by opening time. Holiday weekend, for the added 1/2 price bonus.......
If you look closely at that list in the previous post, some of those trannies are remanufactured/rebuilt. A lot of the junkyards are doing that now, they are dealers for rebuild outlets.
