the new Dmaxes dont get very good mileage either. None of the newer trucks do and mostly because of emmisions regulations. Besides, my father in law has an 04 Dmax CC 4x4 and he averages about 15
Get the Chevy if reliabilty is your concern. I've pulled our 33 TT back and forth from WI to MT many times. I have an 03 D/A combo approunching 70k in miles. Plenty of performance toys on the thing. Times back to thje dealer = 0. run about 19mpg unloaded, 12-14 loaded
With that said I like the way the Fords look compared to GM also.
I know I know Yah Im being a pain in the you know what. I just cant stand somebody saying get a Chevy on a Ford site. I just have to say something. No harm intended.
Talking about relaibility. the whole thing about the 6.0 is a puzzle Some people have no problems and some people do. I have a 7.3 myself and its been a great rig. No problems whatsoever. Ive talked to friends off mine that have the 6.0 and one had an oil leak. But that was fixed with no problems after that. Nobody else has told me about problems they have had. As far as I know there trucks are used everyday and have never been laid up. If it wasnt for emmissionsIm sure there wouldnt be know problems. I know one thing theres a lot off 6.0s out there. A dealer near me has sold a ton. The minute Ford puts out an extra incentive package the 6.0s move off the lots.
I did the same thing before I bought my 05 PSD. I talked to everyone I ran into in parking lots as to how their PSD was performing. I probably talked to more than 20 people and not one of them had any complaints about the engine.
I am glad I got the PSD. Currently just under 8000 miles and no problems. My brother had an 04 with over 40000 miles and no problems. I have three friends one has an 03 and the other two have 04s and no problems ever reported.
Driving across country as my brother has several times, he noted most of the big trucks out there doing all the work are Fords and most of them are diesels.
I think this web site tends to draw in people that have problems and then I have to believe there is a lot of exaggeration going on when the problem is described. I wonder what they are doing to have so many problems?
I have loaded mine up to extreme weight, towed trailers with other trucks on them and the PSD is the thing to have. When you are going uphill towing a trailer with a truck on it and you want to pass the guy ahead of you, the PSD will obey and get you by.
I love my PSD and would buy again with no hesitation.
I am completely satisfied with my '04. 22,500 miles, serpentine belt replaced under warranty and that is the only reason it has been back to dealership. Just make sure you choose the truck you like and walk away with no regrets. For me, I love the sound of the PSD, the room of the crewcab, and the stance of the superduty, so my choice was Ford.
I read the forums for several months before I ordered mine. I thought about a V-10, so I went to the V10 forum and chatted with members there. I would of been happy with that engine also, but I don't do a lot of towing. As another member mentioned I just started chatting to owners I'd meat at cafe's, or fishing, or wherever and didn't hear them have any issues with their PSDs. So even with bad you read about on this site, it was still an easy decision for me.
I have an 04 F20 KR, bought it used with 25k on the clock and have put 6k on it in the last six weeks and have no regrets. Where I live in south MS, the only truck to have is a 4x4, then you start splitting up. About 90% of the Ford SD's are 6.0 PS's. When rolling down the road, I have noticed that 90% of the SD's are 6.0 PS's and that 90% of the Chevy's are NOT Duramax powered, just an observation of mine. I wonder what the ratio of Powerstrokes to Duramax's is.
I love my truck and it is second only to my wife and kids.
You can tell a 6.0 from a 7.3 by the powerstroke badge on the door. The 6.0's have a nice chrome badge that says pwerstroke and the letters are red. The 7.3's (2001-2003) say pwerstroke in chrome and the background is black and the adge is narrower. In 99-00 the badge was on the front of the fender and it was small and said powerstroke v-8. All the 6.0's have the red letters.

It would be interesting to see how many of the people with problems have chips/tuners or other modifications, and how they drive. Are they the ones out there spinning the wheels, racing, ect.?
I agree, and the mods also cause ford to be on the watch for altered trucks. But you have to wonder why ford is going to a different engine in 07 if the 6.0 is as good as some say. I believe the 6.0 is being pushed to its limits with the high revs, and will cut down on the life of the engine. In 2007 toyota is comming out with a full size diesel it should be interesting to see how the big 3 will respond. the quality will have to improve or they will lose there market share quick.
What diesel engine is Ford supposed to use in '07? Any information on the changes to the Super Duty interior and exterior? If a new engine arrives in '07, how much time would have to pass or how many units would have to be sold to determine if it is a more reliable engine than the 6.0 it replaces?
I am hoping to get a truck this year, not in 2 or 3 years. At the same time, I do not want to buy in haste and kick myself in the rear for being impatient. I know they will always improve the truck. However, I do not want to invest in an unreliable drivetrain just because I really like everything else about the truck.
I suppose I will investigate just '05 issues and hopefully those will be minor. I do understand no vehicle will be perfect, however I want as close to perfect as $40-$50K will purchase. I can't afford to keep trading-in vehicles every 2-3 years. I need to be able to keep this truck for at least 6 years and maybe even as long as 10.
