What is a good set of headers for my 90 F-150 5.8L 351W 4x4? Got several other modifications to it and i have 2 cracked manifolds so headers are my next one.
I'm at a similar point. I need to replace my rusted out oil dipstick tube and noticed that I am going to have to work around the exhaust manifold in order to do so. It would be a nice time to go ahead and get a new set of headers, or at least have these cleaned up and new hardware installed. I've heard alot of people talk about Bassani headers but I checked their website and there is no application for my truck at all (94 F250 4W 351W). I know that my dipstick mounts to the header as well so I'm worried that if I get the wrong headers I will have fitment problems with the oil dipstick.
just thought i would add, my 95 f150 4x4 with 351 has headman headers,
part # 89270 althought, you might want to go with stainless steal if you have the money. i had to take a tiny notch out of the frame in order for the passenger side to fit. i'm sure many might not want to go that way. works well for me though.
Do headers make much of a difference in performance and milage on the mid 90s 5.8s? Im tring to decide if its worth the trouble of installing a set or not..?
Hey guys, well I can't say anything for the 351 but for my 302 with my long tube headers and aerotubine my mileage went from 14 at best to 18 at best with speed density.
if your thinking about getting headers, make sure you can get long tube headers, i did notice improvement in performance but haven't checked milage. if you were getting shorty headers, i'm not sure i would spend the money.
I've used both LT and shorty's (equal length) and both have produced noticeable gains, as per seat-of-the-pants dyno. I installed a set of Summit truck headers on a late model Chevy pickup and the owner was very pleased with the performance increase.
