Car Wax

I was wondering what people think is the best car polish/wax out there. Meguires, DuPont, Turtle Wax, NuFinish etc... Price does not matter, I have always used Meguires and have had excellent results, but i have a 97, with the bright red paint and the paint is oviously getting a little aged here in Chicago's crazy weather patterns. So any ideas. Thanks!

Meguiars is excellent... I use the three-pass system and it's beautiful. You might also look into Zaino... it's expensive, but many big-time car guys swear by it. I'll likely try the Zaino system on my new '05 SD... it's black, blacker, more black (XLT Sport package) and requires lots of maintenance under the Texas summer sun...

bright red. do you mean bright red clearcoat like my 95? what i did was buff it out with a very light compond and then meguires wax . we have some crazy weather here by the ski areas in nj . wind , snow. rain. road salt. it all takes it toll.
i have gone as far as 800 wet sanding a truck then very fine polish compond and heavy wax. to bring one back. good luck no matter how you choice to do it.

there are many excellent waxes, usually they are not found in local stores. I like Meguiars products. If you want to mail order though, check out Pinnacle, Menzerna, Klasse, Zaino and others.

Another vote for Meguires. Owned 3 black vehicles and nothing would put a shine on them like Meguires would. Now I don't use anything but their products.

get yourself some cleaning clay to remove the crud handwashing misses and then use any brand carnubia wax. its a lot harder to wipe off but you cant beat the shine or durability.

Gotta agree with everyone else Meguiars is they way to go. I use it on the paint and chrome. Nothing shines better. I used to use Turtle Wax but it left an odd film on my truck. Definitely go with Meguiars

Shine is in the polish

You must remember that wax is a protectant. The shine of the vehicle comes from the polish underneath the wax. You'll have better luck to polish your vehicle before you apply the wax. That's the way to get shine that's a mile deep.

I go with the Meguire's NXT ( 2 coats, one day apart) but you will really be impressed if you CLAY BAR the truck first. It is work, but the result says it all! The clay really cleans the paint and that NXT just gets a deeper and deeper shine as each day passes ( for about the first week).

I've found that Liquid Glass works really well for waxing/polishing. If your paint is starting to fade, try a product like Meguiars Color RX.

I agree, clay bar cleaning system is a must BEFORE you wax. I have never used the Meguires NXT but I am tempted. I have used Turtle Wax Platinum series. It is the best Turtle Wax out there. I give my truck alot of attention. I wax it about 5-6 times a year. Living in Massachusetts its tough to wax from November through March. The last wax I applied was the Turtle Wax back in early November and the water still beads up on the hood now in mid February.

I am very partial to paste waxes over liquid ones. It is alot easier to apply and control the amount. Plus you can store the appicator pad in the can and not get it all dirty and gritty.

I like the paste wax too. Meguire's now has the NXT in paste form. What is said above is right. The wax is the "protectant" layer. The system approach works every time: wash, clay bar (gets the contaminants out of the paint), polish, and wax. everyone has their favorite products, and if the system is used, they all do the job. How often you have to do each step depends on where you live, where you drive, where you store/park the car or truck, and how often you wash the vehicle.
