hey guys. ive got a 6" revteck lift. i love it, but ive already got the itch to get more lift. my cousin has a donahoe 12.5" kit, and im looking to go to somewhere around 10" of lift. however from what i hear and what i read a lift that size is very expensive. i was thinking about making my own lift of sorts. either drop all of the hangers, stack rear blocks and add front blocks (even tho that is a serious no no) or some combo of that. does anyone have any ideas on wheather it would b worth the time, or should i just bite the bullet again and buy another lift. any help or other ideas would b great. thanks. ~elkman
You could add 4.5" hanger and shackles in the front, get crossover steering, a large box kit (with trac bar relocation and a new longer, adjustable trac bar), new shocks all around, new 8" springs in the rear, and all the necessary hardware......also don't forget about driveline mods. You'd basically be buying a 10.5" lift minus the 6" front springs. It may be cheaper to sell your lift as a whole and buy the complete 10.5" lift.
If you know front blocks is a "serious no no" than why think about doing it??? Is having a lifted truck more important than being safe?? Front blocks are illegal in many places since they have been known to spit out from under the front springs when the u-bolts stretch.....
I cant speak for where you are (because i dont know) but here in Los Angeles, if you get spotted with front lift blocks, they will impound your truck. You have to go through the impound fee's, get your truck from the highway patrol but they hold your tags, have the truck tow'd to where it can be worked on (by you or a shop), get the blocks removed, take the truck back to a highway patrol inspection station, get recertified, and then go appy to get your tag's back.
You can't even get the registration "day pass", because it is a safety issue.
And of course, thats assuming you dont kill someone when your front blocks go flying (and they will), at which point your looking at manslaughter 2. ;(
there is a reason front blocks are illegal in almost every state.
