I have an 05 powerstroke with an odometer problem. Instead of the odometer putting ONE mile on the display for every mile, it started going by 1000 increments. I want to disable the speed sensor or whatever sensor it is that the odometer uses so i can get this fixed and not put more miles on it than i should. Dealership wont fix because i have an aftermarket lift and tires....
Most dealers send their trucks that get big tirea and lifts to aftermarket sources. If your dealer has a good mechanic, they know how to match the speedo to the tire size.
Besides the 2005 has Engine run hours, so if you so the Math, you MPH would average over 100 MPH when you compare mileage to Run Hours.
You might try pulling the fuse for the instrument panel to see if it might reset the speedo calibration
Technically, disabling the odometer is illegal, but your situation would warrant it more than others.
Unplugging the vehicle speed sensor will do so, but driveability will be an issue- I do not honestly have a clue how the transmission parameters will respond to it. That is the only effective method you would have of doing it.
I'm not sure on this, but I think it is legal to do, but illegal to sell afterwards as anything other than T.M.U (true mileage unknown)...so there really is no point in it.
T.M.U. assumes you basically have eleventeen million miles on the vehicle and is exempt from mileage...and of course, affects value adversely.

He needs to speed sensor....
Everything n/v is based on MPH.
I own a used car lot,er I mean truck repair shop, and would be interested in same.
It's simply not ethical, and should never be done.
True story:
When I worked in tech selling a particular brand tuner, I had someone call me and get angry that the tuner didn't "adjust the speedo for the gear/tire size" on their F150. Of course it did, he had 4.10 gears to replace the stock 3.55's and the tuner corrected the speedometer (which in turn corrects the odometer readings and shifting).
Here was his complaint:
"Well, I had the gears in there for a year before I got the tuner and I need to take about 8,000 miles off the odometer because the speedo and odometer read too fast before I got the tuner".
He was dead serious and I almost fell out of my chair.
I couldn't hold it in..........I had to laugh a little and tell him how preposterus his request was.
He wanted a refund because it didn't "perform as advertised" LOL.
He never called back or returned it because he admitted he loved how it drove and shifted.
I will never forget that call as long as I live.
