you didn't say what kind of truck you have.I recently repainted my 89 with PPg urathane paint.It's a supercab and I used approx. 1 gal. of paint not including the 2 qts. hardner and 1 gal. of reducer that you need to mix in the paint.and I still pushed the limit with it.to sand your truck depends on the amount of body work you plan on doing if any.if you don't have any to do you should at least sand the whole truck with a 400 grit automotive type sandpaper until the finish is dull.

The last vehicle I painted was with DuPont Imron. That stuff is harder than a rock and doesn't fade like Enamel paints.If I ever get all the body work done on mine that Is what I will probably use. It is a pain in the Butt to try and do body work on a vehicle you have to drive.
