I was driving my 1985 f150 auto when out of the blue the motor bogged down, the truck started shaking and wanted to pull to the right. when I hit the breaks to pull over the truck felt funny and pulled hard to the left or right.
I could smell burned oil . motor oil was good, rear end not hot, I checked the transmission and the fluid was red, not drown. I pulled out and the tranny shifted funny and I thought I lost 2nd gear. I drove her back home and she started driving and shifting normal again.
The first time this happend was last october, truck ran good all winter, then it happened again today. I dont drive this truck much maybe every 2 wks for 10 mile trip to dump. I had a tranny go out on this truck before and it was nothing like this.

it's a 4x2. with the inline 6 300, 3 speed automatic. I like the ole f150, I always thought I would put another tranny in her if this one gave out but it seems like it may be something else too. the way gas is going through the roof I dont know if I want to spend alot on the ford now.
Could be several things and everyone will have their own idea, here's my two cents worth. I would change the control module (help ensures you are getting fire) and the modulator on the transmission (if it's clogged she won't shift right). Both for under $50 and well spent. If you have changed them, check them. Also check you cap, rotor, plugs and wires, along with battery connections at both ends (between the pos and starter, neg and block, frame). It's very important that all ground straps be in working order. There should be at least one from the battery ground to the block and one other from the block to the firewall, minimum, more won't hurt.
Let us know what happens.
Sounds like something in the rear(pinion gears maybe) or brakes trying to lock up. Absolutely nothing in the engine or transmission would cause a truck to pull right or left.
