When braking I hear something clunking underneath the EX. Almost like a sway bar link is broke or something. I have been under the truck and had the wife move forward and then back but I can't hear or see anything when she is moving the truck but when driving you can feel it and hear it. I hear this in the front and I believe the same type of sound is coming from the rear. Drive shafts/u-joints check out okay.
I know this doesn't answer much but I have looked and listen more than once and can not pin point the source of the noise. I have searched the forum with no luck. I am hoping this is a common problem and it's something simple to fix. I don't really care if the repair is simple. I just want to find the problem. thanks bob
There are a lot of threads addressing clunking sounds that seem to usually end up being the sway bar bushings...although you would expect that it would happen other than with just braking. Try disconecting it and seeing if the clunk goes away. Another source that some have found are the bolts that tie the body to the frame, having worked themselves loose.
I will look into those two items. I searched all day one day and could not find anything on this subject. I must be using a different description than what has been posted in the past.
I'll tell you the same thing I told the guy with the shakey front end, check your ball joints. When mine went bad I would shake at highway speeds and just before I came to a stop I would feel a clunk. I may be way off but worth a check since these things are famous for the ball joints anyway.
Jack up the front and grab the tire and lift up and down to see if you feel any movement. Don't pull and push by grabing the top and bottom, that won't work. You have to lift on the tire, at least thats how I was able to tell.
