Thumbs down Stiff clutch

I know its been discussed before, but has anyone found a way to get a softer clutch ? My 57, 223 with 4 spd has the darn stiffest clutch , its hard to drive in traffic. I tried my local Center Force retailer . they said they couldnt help my situation. I have a 11 in. clutch and pressure plate. Has anyone out there had this problem ?? Roy.

Maybe a diaphram type of clutch. Some of the 3 finger clutches can be stiff. Also check the ratio of your clutch linage.

Roy, check around in your area and see if there is a business that builds pressure plates. They should be able to build, or modify your existing unit to suit your needs. My 51 has the 11" with the orginal 4 speed, it's not bad at all. Please let me know how you resolve the problem.

stiff clutch

Yea, I'm going to get with someone at the local transmission place and try to solve it. Dont have a mech linkage to adjust, it's a hydrollic clutch. The diaphram type is the way to go (i think) and i thought Center Point would be able to help me. Roy

Take a look at Ch**y clutches, they are diaphram type. It may require redrilling your flywheel.

Clutch

Think I may have found a clutch kit from Automotive Parts Network. They gave me a price for a kit, but its a 10 in. clutch and not a 11 in. Would it make a great deal of difference going to a 10 in ? Is the bolt pattern on the flywheel the same for a 10 in as a 11 in ?? Roy

Clutch

Think I just answered my own question asked previously. The bolt pattern for a 10in plate IS different than a 11 in. Should have known that. I think my biggest problem is that I just have too much clutch. Considering getting rid of this HD 11in and going to a 10in. My overhaul manual (57) indicates that truck modelsF-100, 6cyc doesnt use a 11 in clutch, suppose to be a 10 in. The 11in is used when the 500-600 p-350 400 and 500 come in. Even the P-350 6cyc uses 10.5 in clutch. The f-100 and F-250 8 cyc uses a 10-5 in. So ---- I'm going back to a stock 10 in. I will have to change the flywheel, but I have one. When I get the thing in I will let the word out. Thanks Roy

Roy, We were discussing different diameter master cylinders virsus brake pedal/pad pressure awhile back. And sense you are using a wet clutch a smaller diameter might ease your pedal pressure. Just a thought

Smile Stiff clutch

Yea Rod I'm diffenently going to put a smaller disc in. I think that will take care of a lot of my problems. A side note, I'm also going to install a 3.25 rear end. Gotta get rid of this 4.11. If I do these two things my truck will almost be finished. I'm going to be awol for a few months, going north, back in Oct. See ya then. Roy
