Just a thought. I was doing my mom's anual services for her and got to thinking would the IRS in her 02 explorer fit under my 94 ranger stx? That would give the clearance I want without a lift kit. Has anyone ever tried this? if so let me know if it's worth collecting up the parts and nerve to try it.
thanks,
Roy

Exactly what clearance would it give you?
The lowest point would probably be about the same.....only in different places....and the diff will actually LOSE clearance as the suspension compresses.
Nothing to gain by this swap and much more trouble than simply swapping leaf springs or adding blocks (the lazy, cheapest way)
The '02+ Explorer is on a different platform than the Ranger, it would be quite an involved process to swap an IRS into the Ranger. Might benefit you if you road race your truck.
I've seen it done on a custom setup before on a lowered Ranger. I don't know if it was completely custom or based on parts from another car.
I agree w/ Tiggie. The irs would be of value on a lowered Ranger, but is not the thing to do if you want to jack up the Ranger. The Exp is wider than the Ranger, so while putting it on conceptually is straightforward, the details would involve modifying a lot of parts.
I was thinking moving the rear diff up would keep it out of harms way, something like the original military hummers. But now that the "wouldn't that be cool if" dreams are fading I see I really wouldn't have any more clearance. Thanks for pulling my head out of the clouds.
