Talking Dpfe P/n

99 Ranger 3.0 4WD

The dealer sold me a DPFE sensor (EGR System) for $105.41 claiming I was getting an "upgrade". Can anyone confirm that P/N F77Z-9J460-AB is a good part number for my truck?

Thanks

Part number sounds right on. I just replaced the DPFE on my 96 Mazda (99.9% Ranger) and the parts guy told me it fits a multitude of Ford engines and was improved by changing from pot metal to a plastic housing. After I changed my old one, I opened the old metal housing and found a small printed circuit board and a small diaphragm that both looked like had failed due to moisture. I was getting P0401 codes. Mine was 87 bucks at the Ford truck boys.

DPFE Problems

From the parts listing that I have, a 1999 with the 3.0 should be a OE P/N- F7UE-9J460AA. The p/n you were given may be a replacement model. I don't know why it's so expensive though, I just replaced one my 2001 XLT 4x4, the part number for mine is 4U7Z-9J460-AA and it was $33.08 from the local dealer. (just in case anyone is looking for a 01')
I was getting the P1400 code and was told to replace the EGR valve............. word to the wise, take the time to test the valve and sensor first, because it's probably the sensor. 30 minutes of testing saved me the cost of an EGR valve; $69.00 and probably 2 hours of installing and running around. I'm going to buy an extra DPFE sensor just to have as a spare, they are notorious for failure and if you look on the message boards, they be quite a pain in the butt, once figured out though, it's a 15 minute fix. 4 min to swap the part and 15 min wait to reset the CEL.

I just bought that same part from fordparts.com for $48.03 + $9.95 for shipping. Mine is for a 2000 Cougar 2.5L V6 but I was also told this is an updated unit.

P.S. the one I got does look like the one shown in the link in the post above.
