i think the smaller animals are more intelligent than bigger ones. whenever possums gound hogs, or coons are in the road, they always run out of my way. most other animals just sit there or try to run out of the way, but have some really bad reaction time. hell most hust jump out infront of you expecting to make it accros. some dogs are just dumb and chase after you. some are pretty quick though. 2 dogs once chased me from a stop light for about 200 yards and kept up!
We have two little dachshunds at home and they've learned really quick that when we take them out if they get within 20 feet of the road they are going to get a swat on the rear. We normally keep them very close to use anyhow, out in the country we have lots loose neighbor dogs and a few have challenged our little (7 lbs) male. So they go out rarely. That neighbor's dog is a real treat. He's already said it's the country and he won't tie his dog up. The dog already bit a buddy of mine so next time he's around the three S's will be in effect. Shoot, shovel, shut up.
my dad watched a turkey take flight in his direction from a open field. he was in his pickup, and thought " im doing 70, that turkey is too slow and too far away to actually cross my path" WHAM !!!!!!!!!!!! turkey took out his grill!! he spent more time calculating the idea rather than to hit the breaks and it cost him 60 bucks for a new grill
LOL on second thought that turkey must have been a kamakazi sent in by ford... cause my dad was driving his chevy
I don't know what I would do if my dog Jake died!! He is my buddy I would be really be mad if it was done on purpose but that is clearly not the case. Hope things work out for ya!!
One thing about hitting a dog, it reminds you hitting a child is much worse. That always sticks in my mind when I am having trouble staying at a 20 or 25 mph speed limit through the city with an idiot tail gating my truck.

Speaking of deer, if one jumps out in front of you make sure you go through it. I've seen people panic brake in small cars causing their front ends to dive drastiacally now causing the deer to come up onto the hood into the windshield. Very ugly and potentiually fatal.

There's a flaw in your logic... When armadillos get scared they jump in the air and tend to run smack into your windshield. It's pretty gross when a semi comes along.
Been there too, it stinks. Some of my neighbors were happy later, the dog was hyperactive all of its life and barked all night. One of my friends even commented that the dogs master was often more annoying than the dog and could be heard at 1:00AM calling the dog at the top of his voice. I brought a little peace and quiet to the neighbors, although I felt bad about killing the pooch.

Been there. Had my dog Blacky for 11 years when some yahoos jumped a curb and deliberately ran him down. He was going defa nad did not hear them coming. Right in front of my house. The neighbor witnessed it. All we got was a description of the car. A 65 Black Mercury 2dr. Needless to say the culprits were never caught. I was 19 then and had sevral more good dogs since and been fortunate it has not happened again. Thou the pooch I have now has to taught to quit racing the cars driving by my place. I too have a chain tied to a post to let him run and then wham, flat on his back. It has not worked yet.
I've hit a dog, a cat, some unknown fuzzy thing on a country road, a turtle, deer, and an Itallian teenager on a moped... I felt sorry for all the critters, but the kid darted out in front of me, then wanted me to pay for damages... he wasn't hurt, and I was told later that it was probably a scam. At least animals don't do it on purpose (except those squirrels on the insurance add.) Your dog hit was an accident... don't feel bad--- the more you drive the more chances you have to hit something.
im not sure if i couldn't hit the brakes w/ a deer, even in my capri or falcon. it would just be really hard, but i have seen pictures of deers halfway through a hondas windshield.
