No for real this is my question. I'm lloking for a disscustion on the benifits of a boost gauge. I know the benifits of pyro and trany but why boost if My truck is not hevaly moded?/ I'm trying to deside if I get the 3 or the 2 gague cluster. thanks all J

It's another way to keep tabs on what your engine is doing. There are a lot of gauges that you don't "need", but then it's harder to see what is going on. If you plan on doing any mods, it's a good idea to have it.

Another reason to have one is if you're chipped and run high boost a lot, you can tell how high you're getting and you know your normal boost levels. If you start seeing loss of boost pressure, you know there could be a problem with your turbo, and if you catch it, you might be able to cut the problem off before your turbo blows up.

cuz, is real cool to watch the gauge go up and say whoa, look at that boost. . i would agree with the first two postes. i use it mostly as a diognostic tool, to keep tabs on what the turbo is doing. its not nessasary but it is another piece of information as to what is going on under the hood, and as they say "information is power"

Question

Just curious, what's the normal max boost on a PSD unchipped?

I'm getting around 17 PSi @max RPM

you are right there 16-18, maybe 20 if you are pulling a load.

Ok, but will there be a boost gain when adding chip tuning?

Ahh - YES! More fuel = more boost. I can peg my 35psi gauge with my chip on Fuel-7 and the wastegate disabled.

You don't need it. 99% of the time it's a "gee whiz" thing, and it does occasionally come in handy as a diagnostic tool.

Since you are already doing the other two, you might as well add the third simply because it might come in handy.....and you may decide that you want your truck heavily modded eventually.

like cookie said mostly diagnostic and fine tuning, helps you spot a turbo problem also.
make it so ya know when to get your foot out of it with stock head gaskets.....
stock OBS can make 25 psi with a load behind it.....cool air, good fuel.....

i can peg my 35 psi with the injectors and chip im runnin, but turbo wont last if i do that too much....

But mostly for bragging rights. Get the 60 lb guage, big injectors, propane, ball bearing turbo, and really crow like a rooster!
