I was measuring the height of my 2000 Explorer Sport at each corner. What I found out was in the front end the driver side is sitting lower by about 1" than on the passenger side, and in the rear the driver's side is sitting only 3/8" lower than the passenger side. What would cause the driver side front to sag? Could it be that the torsion bars just need adjustment, or do I have a suspension component going bad? I am going to be replacing the rear springs from a four door this weekend weather permitting. I will probably have to adjust the torsion bars anyway to even the truck out after raising the rear end, but I am concerned if I may have other problems. The alignment in the front needs to be re-adjusted because the tire is wearing on the outer edge. Also, the truck has new shocks all the way around. Any ideas?
The ride height adjustment on the torsion bars is easy to do. It is the first step in any front end alignment because the height sets the baseline suspension geometry. Some sag is inevitable due to wear on the kevlar pad on the torsion bar adjuster cam.
If the vehicle is mostly operated with one person aboard, the asymmetric weight may cause one side to settle more than the other.
Thanks for the quick response. Even though the vehicle doesn't pull to one side, you can look at the front end on the driver's side and see the tire is leaning in a little. The wear on the tire shows it as well. I am going to take it in for alignment as soon as I get the spring job done and hopefully that will make everything correct. The main thing I was concerned with was the possibility of a component going bad causing this. Thanks again!
