Today I was at Lowes home improvement store, and when I came out theirs a shopping cart that had hit my third door. I was really mad because it leave a dent the size of a dime. Of coursce thay have a disclaimer that says not responsible for damge done by shopping carts.
why don't people just take a few seconds and put the carts in the cart return thinky, where they won't go blowning all over the parking lot.
Yes, I have a paint scrape that I had to touch up. Fortunately not a dent. The bad part. I did it to myself. Just got a little too close to the truck with a cart that I thought had rubber on the corners. It didn't. Scraped the paint off for about 3/4" down to the primer.
I'd suggest you check into whether or not they are or are not responsible for damage. Just because they have a disclaimer doesn't mean squat. In some states and municipalities they most certainly are responsible!
This is similar to the trucks that have the placards on them stating "to stay back 200 feet", and "they are NOT responsible for broken windshields". In Colorado they ARE responsible if the damage is done due to the load they are carrying.
the parking lot is graded so water flows into the storm sewers
under these conditions, not returning your cart to the cart corral is extremely irresponsible. if you left your car in neutral and the handbrake off and it rolled into someone's car you would be responsible. same goes for a shopping cart

I'd bet that thier disclaimer would never hold up in court. You and your truck have an implied invitation to their parking lot. It's their duty to do what they can to make sure you can leave the property in the same condition that you arrive in. In this case it would be resonable to expect them to have a system in place to control their shopping carts.
Go make a claim to the store manager, ask him nicely to pay. Don't get angry or make threats. If he wont help, get your lawyer involved. You'll probably get your dent fixed and your lawyer paid for. Their insurance companies hate to go to court.
It's probably too late now, since you already left the parking lot, but...
I had that happen to me at an ACME in MD a few years ago. I immediatly went into the store & talked to the manager. He said get 3 estimates, then gave me a check for the amount of the lowest est. I did have to sign a waiver stating that the check was a final resolution.
Go back to the store and speak with the manager. The store will handle it. Just don't be a pian int he rear and be rude. And don't speak with anyone but the store manager. Most people don't know that the store is responsible. The disclaimer is there to scare you off.
