OK, my water in fuellight just started coming on whenever I make left turns so I dive underneath to the lower fuel filter to drain it, as I used to with my 2004 F350, only to find that here is no drain on the filter anymore.
Owners manual says there is, like my 350 did, but the filter is different.
It's called the HFCM, or fuel/water seperator. The 05 is different than the 04's. Check your manual for the directions or come over to the 6.0 forum for more help.
MUST open drain plug on water-seperator, not just open or change filter. Oil (diesel fuel floats on water) so you MUST drain the lowest part of the filter assembly... or the drain plug.
The '05 was supposed to get an updated HFCM, with a drain *lever*... which would be heavenly... but even though it was shown in the '05 manual that, way, nobody has seen one on a pickup truck yet. Is this where they all went, to the Excursion part of the assembly line? If that's the case, there should be a lever about where the hex key plug used to be, with a nipple to put a hose on below it. Let me see if I can dig up a picture.
I looked at the pictures of both the 2004 and 2005 and I don't have either!
Mine is a solid unit, no plug, no lever, just a solid housing.
Wow, weird!! The rest of it looks the same though? (I don't mean to be insulting, but you are looking at the right device along the frame rail, right? Not that I can think of any other devices along the frame rail under the driver's seat...)
I'm not insulted and I am looking at the right part.
I had a 2004 F350 before this and I know where the part is and what it does.
I went to the dealer and had them look at it. The service writer looked at it, shruged his shoulders and asked if I could make an appointment to leave the truck for a while, whatever that means.
