Looks like Ford has redesigned (or is planning to?) the HFCM cover and replaced the plug with a lever and a drain valve. Check this out (from the 2005 Diesel supplement):
Any of you 2005 owners have this HFCM? I wonder if the cover will fit the earlier HFCM body and what it costs.
Maybe Ford does tune into this site and listen. That is a major improvement. It would be nice to have one on the 03 and 04s. Meanwhile I will continue to use my 3 liter clear cut up soda bottle in my left hand and reach over the front driveshaft with my 6mm hex key in my right..........
On the early 04 models, they came with a 03 engine until after 9/30/03. You may have an 04 engine. Take a look on top of the FICM located on the driver side rear of valve cover. There is a sticker there with a date like 30 SEP 03. That is your engine build date. On the right valve cover is a blue sticker that should say the model year of the engine. What does it read?

The right valve cover has a RED sticker that says it is a 2005 model by International. I am not able to find anything on the left cover except a sticker with a (xxxx / xxx / x) bar code. I guess I dont know what a FICM is.
I did see a label stating that a harness was 'Made In Mexico' on 9/08/04.
My 6-CD radio is also missing some features advertised in the manual.

Just a dumb thought but what does the engine have to do with the HFCM? Shouldn't make a difference as to what motor 04/05 is in the truck to have the updated HFCM just that it's an 05 and past a certain build date.
This was a Job #2 build date change; the 05's sitting on the lot right now don't have them, we are just starting to see them roll in off the car haulers now...

Point is that they make changes all the time to the technology and say vehicles made this date through this date is an 05. They make hardware channges throughout. I used the engine as an example.

What is the Job #2 build date change?
Just wondering for those of us still waiting on our trucks to arrive.

I understand they make changes all the time. Just think that the engine was a bad example in this situation as someone who doesn't understand the HFCM could think that it is part of the engine. IHMO

Can you put an eyeball on a new one and see if the cover looks interchangeable with the earlier units?
Job #2 build's are the units produced after the holiday production shutdown. Ford usually uses this break to update assembly lines, stock new parts, ect. This year they seem to have the job done earlier and will roll out a few of the "updated" units before the break. The new units will have the updated HFCM unit.
I will take a look to see if the parts are interchangable, but as far as I know the entire HFCM (minus the filter) is sold as a single unit, and buying the front cover assembly by itself is not possible if this is the case, however I will try to find out.
PS- Can anyone from admin transfer my post #, gallery, ect. to a new screen name? I am tired of this one...
