will it do it
I am looking at a 2001 f150 4x4 with a 4.6 engine in it, What i need to know will it tow a open car trailer witha 3500 lb car on it? From my past i know i had to have a 5.8 motor to handle it. But i can feel the 4.6 motor seems to have more power than the 5.0 /5.8 motors have. Also with todays gas prices what does the 4.6 do with miles per gallon?

Id need more info on your truck to tell you about MPGs, but as to the question of will it do it, yes, yes it will. Our trailer weighs about 2k empty, and we tow 4-5k cars all the time with it. It will handle this load just fine.

I bought a 97 F150 4x4 5.4L E4OD and pulled my 3 horse stock trailer with 1 horse (2500# total) just fine. BUT when I added the other 2 horses, hay, water, etc (5000# total) it was pitiful barely making it up 6% grades in 2nd at wot. You better by Texascadillac's truck and it's no stock F150 4.6L.
