Hi everyone, I have a code 512 that comes up on the code reader,when I can get a read at all.I know that the code is-keep alive memory failure.The Hayne manuel nor the Chiltons manuel have anymore info on the subject.Can anyone please tell me what it means in terms of vehicle operability and do I need a new ECM.Thanks bunches,Roy
By the way,the truck is a 92 F-250,5.8,E4OD

Thanks for the reply.I checked pin one at the harness connecter and it does have 12 volts.I also checked pin 37 and 57 which also have power from the relay.
I put the code scanner on it again this afternoon and still only code 512.I started the truck and noticed that the check engine light does not come on, when the switch is turned on,like it should for a few seconds.
It could be an intermittent short, and only show up enough to set the code. Try wiggling the wiring to see if you can get it to cut out. If not, I'd see about having the computer tested to make sure the problem is not in there. Also check all the grounds, make sure they are tight and secure. Resistance should be very low between pin 20,40,60 and the negative battery terminal.
I did another running code read on it 2/20/04 and it gave me code 998 (hard fualt). I ordered a new computer from Ford. Put it in tonight when I got home. I will test it out in the morning and see what happens.Thanks for your assistance with my problem.---Roy
