Gear Ratio Question

hey how do I tell what gear ratio I have? I am plannin a 4 wheel drive swap and I was wonderin how to tell what gear ratio is there so I coul dmatch em up.

By the tags on the door jamb, the tag on the axle, and if neither exist at this point you can lift the truck, disconnect the driveshaft, and rotate the wheels and count the number of driveshaft yoke revolutions, then create a mathematical fraction and compute.

3:1 rear axle ratio means the driveshaft rotates 3 times for every wheel revolution, for example.

The last one is more work for sure. But in reality, not that bad. Just put the rear of the truck on jackstands, undo the one u-joint, and rotate. Probably take you as long to get the truck up in the air and steady as to undo one u-joint.

Counting turns is alot harder then it sounds.

Southern also did you get my reply to the PM you sent me over my 78 F150? I noticed you are a new member an d can only get PM's and email from FTE after 15 post i believe it is.
