Hello all. New to the forum and need some help with a pressing issue. Own a 97 Explorer Limited and yesterday headlights stopped working. I have had issues with them not coming on before but after a few minutes they would come back on. Now no lights at all. Dash lights work fine. No fog lights either. I tried turning them off and back on but nothing happened. I tried the high beams and nothing happened. But when I pulled the high beam switch back the driver side high beam came on. I moved that bulb over to the passenger side and problem moved. All fuses are good. Have not checked relays or headlight switch. Can anyone give me some ideas. Have researched but have come up empty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All, I am a new user. Jay, I think I am having the same problem. I have a 1998 Explorer Sport, SOHC. My fog lights turn on via the headlight switch to the left of the steering wheel. However, when i turn the switch all the way to the right, the headlighs will not turn on. Also, pushing forward my turn signal switch does not keep the brights on. The only lights I get (my birghts) are when I pull the turn signal bar towards me and hold it. Any ideas? I am hoping it's a fuse, and not a costly part. Any help would greatly appreciated.
Heres how it's wired, Flash to pass is wired directly to fuse 11. Main headlight switch is also wired to fuse 11. Since flash to pass works, theres only 2 things it could be. Either the main headlight switch is shot or the multifunction switch is shot.
Do me a favor & look in your Haynes manuals, i'm curious if getting to the multifunction switch is as simple as it is on my 95 Taurus.
On the Taurus all you do is remove the plastic trim piece from around the steering column. Does your Haynes show it's the same on your guys Explorers.
Edit, so what you need to do is check for voltage on the red/yellow wire at the multifunction switch. If it's there, replace the multifunction switch. If it's not there replace the main headlight switch.
Hey 87 XLT, thanks, but it was fuse 33. I went on down to my local NAPA at lunch, got a box of fuses and starting plugging away. Eventually, the lights turned on when I replaced 33.
