do you mean what does it do? it reduces voltage to the points.
if you want to know amount of reduction, i think it is reducing to 9 volts. hope this helps. it is used to keep points from burning up.
slik, i checked the Haynes for your year..it is in the "run" ckt from ign sw to the coil..a Red-LT GRN wire..prob in the firewall harness...I'm not sure exactly where tho. haynes manual has a check for the R value of duraspark II....
unplug ign module 2 wire connector (red & white wires)
set VOM on Resistance:
one vom lead to BATT term of coil
other lead to the RED wire in the ign module connector (not the module)
should be 0.8 to 1.6 ohms
some just jump this ballast R out with a wire.
but you'll have some radio interference, etc.
i never trusted the haynes/chilton manuals for specs tho..the helms is the best for a particular year and model/engine
maybe others have more info on the B R's location in the harness...my memory is bad
good luck..post back on what you find
if your a contorsionist you can probably get it by laying on your back or if you have a good sense of feel you can probably fish it out from under there, i dunno about bypassing it tho, no doubt if you hooked 12v to the i (ignition) terminal on the solenoid it would make it run
