I have an 01 PSD and on my front left tire the tread on the tire cupping..I'm pretty sure it comes down to either a bad left front shock or bad left front rotor or pad..Anyone have any other ideas or know how I can tell which one is causing the problem?
My 96 350 does the same on the outside of the left tire. It's been like this since my sister wacked the left wheel while off-roading and screwed the alignment. The truck and shocks were only a couple of years old then.
Also even after two alignments the steering wheel is turned 20 degrees to the right when going straight. I asked my mechanic to adjust the alignment to straighten out the wheel. He said it couldn't be done.
Seems to me the steering wheel should line up and the road wheels should be straight.
Finally, how do you test shocks on a 7000lb truck. I used to bounce my MGB by leaning on it.
Well, it turns out the reason the left tire was cupping was because my outer tie rods and centerlink are froze up and its going to cost $500 to fix and have it aligned...hope this helps someone in the future
I'd bet who ever looked at it didn't have a clue, and arbitarily decided to replace a bunch of stuff.
Usually steering problems cause both tires to scrub, not just one. Ball joints on the other hand can cause one tire to cup and not the other. My money is on the ball joints being out of whack on that side.
