From what I've heard after talking with other people, we didn't get any better shocks in the FX4 - the big thing is the skid plates (and the sharp little stickers).
IMO there is a diff., however not a huge diff. had the opportunity to drive an 03 w/o fx4 but w/ plow pkg. (rear stablizer) pretty good. Next drive an 05 xlt no plow pkg, no, fx4, she liked to lean out of the corners, I was thinking there would be some tire issues at some point. Next drive 05 fx4, w/ plow pkg. a bit nicer ride, no real tendancy to lean hard cornering, & yup they are rancho shocks but not the same H/D units you and I would put on as replacements. Bought the 05 fx4 w/plow pkg. 5.4 s/c 6.5 box
Thanks for the input. It is good to hear about this stuff from people who have really driven them. In your opinion, does the plow package make much difference?
Hi matt, the biggest diff. is the slightly heavier front springs, and the addition of the rear stabilizer, however i've seen stabilizers on two other trucks w/o plow or fx4 pkgs.
But never got to talk to the owners, as far as edelbrock goes they're a big co. now and rancho was small years ago (rancho, when they started was a couple of guys with better ideas for the truck industry), they revolounized the monster trucks.
No matter what you get you will upgrade at some point and the best I can tell you from expierence is the bigger the bore the better the ride (as far as stock shocks go)
But that depends on your driving style and needs!
