390 rebuild
I ahve a 390 in my 76 hiboy and just found out that its bored .060 over but has a stock cam. I want to know if i should keep this motor and just install an rv cam or start fresh with a .030 over block the motor is fairly new but runs a lot better in the top end than it does in the low and naturally I need more low end grunt. I'm getting ready to restore the truck and want it all right going back together.

.060 over with stock truck pistons might make for a low compression 390. The truck pistons reults in a low Compression with stock bore. A cam change from the stock cam with a low compression ratio might not help any. Have you done a compression check? If you disassemble the engine, you should have a machine shop look at the cylinders and see if it will require any more boring to clean up. If not, consider some of the higher compression Car 390 pistons or even 360 pistons. I believe the 360 pistons result in about 9.5:1 CR
