Ok, 02 PSD ,4x4,crewcab,sb,auto. On decereration from about 30-20 mph I get a weird vibration in the truck(on the brakes or not)and in N, D, or 2. I can't pinpoint weather it's in the front or rear. Looked under for obvious signs of wear or excessive play on steering comp. none found except the steering stab. replaced but didn't help. Also checked the driveline all seemed OK, carrier bearing seems Ok too. Any direction I need to look for, or any advice much appreciated. Thanks, Mike
All u-joints come up okey fine the dealer told me the tires were crap (ya a little choppy but NOT crap) told me they would check the wheel bearings, tighten the "track bar" , and adjust the PS all for the low price of $400. Not sure gonna get the tires rotated & balanced if needed replace the tires, still not 100% convinced. All susp & drivetrain OK as the dealer says, hopefully a tire prob.!?!?!!?! Any input , still seems not right
I can see it possibly being a tire, out of balance. but why it only happens on deceleration, and between 20-30 has me baffled. see if you can just get a set of tires and rims from someone and see if that fixes it before you shell out money for new tires.
I seem to catch myself posting this alot, but a tire can be balanced and not be round. An out of round tire can cause a vibration, two of them can cause weird harmonics and vibrations. Sometimes it could help to rotate tires and see if the problem moves.
I had a vibration I finally fixed about 3 weeks ago. Took about a month of head scratching and trial and error before I finally figured it out. It was there on acceleration and deceleration. After going through the front end, I decided it was in the driveline. New u-joints and carrier bearing still didn't fix it. Had the truck up on a buddy's lift and noticed that one of the u-bolts that hold the torsion bar(sway bar,...whatever it is) had worked itself loose. Tightened it up and all is better now.
WOW, thanks for all the info guys, I did have the tires rotated & balanced and it seems to me that the vib. is coming from the rear now so I believe its a tire, but I will still do some more checking. HOpefully B4 Mon.(I'm getting new tires) can't afford any problems gotta carry the kids around!!! Thanks 99TURBO I will check the sway bar too. But wouldn't the dealer have noticed that? Just asking to see if it's that obvious or not.
I don't want to send the black cloud your way but, I had the same thing happen in my 94 F-150 and it wound up being the rear. Gear went bad. So I went for 308 to 373 while they were in there.
toolfan, I would imagine that the dealer would have caught it. I never noticed it while I was doing the u-joints and carrier bearing. After I had it on the lift a second time I was just looking at the backside of the rear axle trying to figure what else it could be and saw a little rust around that u-bolt and reached up there and it wiggled a little bit. The dealer may have missed it if they didn't bother checking the swaybar or the u-bolts. Hope it is an easy fix for you, I am glad I finally figured out my vibration...it was driving me crazy.
