Hey Guys,
I know this topic has been brought up before, but our 2004 PSD F250 with the Automatic Trans is having some shifting issues. It's my brother's truck and from what he tells me, it shifts weird sometimes. Sometimes it works fine, and other times, it won't let him get about 30 mph b/c it's not shifting. My thought was the sensor at the back axle. Is this a possilbe cause? If so, where can it be located on the back axle, and can it be taken out and cleaned? We are trying to fix this thing before sending it off to the stealership to look at. Thanks for the inputs.
Check for trouble codes or ask him if his overdrive light is flashing. Usually if the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is failing then a code will be triggered.
Im not sure. As far as mods, he's running 33 inch all terrains but no lift, etc. He does pull skiddys a lot. But it only has 45000 miles on it. Anyhow, Im not sure how his tranny fluid looks, Ill have him check. Its going to the dealer tomorrow though.
Mine's in the shop. 2005, 3100 miles. started with not going into revervse gear without a 2-3 second delay. next starting seaching badley in tow haul mode. dealer said solenoids bad.
We just found out that it was two sensors in the engine. The turbo wasn't working b/c of the sensors and the engine didn't have enough power to shift the tranny...something like that. When we get it back, Ill let you know the detailed diagnosis.
Ford shipped new tranny in create today, should be in thursday. dealer replaced 2 solenoids and still had problem with reverse when they test drove it. Ford said that the one in my truck was supposed to have been corrected at the plant before going into the truck but it was missed. this tranny was in the build date ford was aware of involving defects.
I have just received a "customer satisfaction program # 04B24 for my 2004 PSD F250.
Issue: The TorqShift Transmission may have a low/reverse gear set pinion shaft that may become loose, causing metallic particle contamination. If this occurs, it may lead to harsh/slipping shifts and/or harsh/delayed forward/reverse engagements. Quoted verbatem from FMC.
I have an appointment to take my truck to the dealer on 4/6/05 for the service to be performed. I only have 4500 miles on my truck and I have a bad feeling about having my transmission opened up. I'm afraid trouble will re-occur after my warranty expires.
I hope they find it necessary to replace it, instead of trying to repair it.

dyb, did you have to complain long and loud at the stealership about the tranny?
I have the same problem w/an 05, took it in originally for the delay problem, they replaced the reverse gear snap ring but did'nt want to talk about the delay, I plow with this truck and any delay in shifting is a pain. only 1300 mi. on mine and the delay started at 900 thanks jon
There is a real long thread in the 6.0L Diesel Forum about 04B24 tranmission recall. I learned of the recall from this forum and had an OASIS report run on my VIN. The very next day Ford notified me by mail of the situation. Although I didn't like the idea of my transmission being taken apart in a new truck, I do appreciate the notification of a potential problem before it affected me. My tranny is shifting fine. The truck runs great. It takes approx two days to complete this service. I had the rear main seal replaced as well (oil leak) since it's an easy job with the transmission out of the truck.

My brother should be getting his truck back today so I told him to talk to the dealer about this current recall b/c he has been having a delayed forward/reverse engagment problem and the dealer said it was normal. Thanks for the heads up.
The delayed forward/reverse is a symptom of 04B24. The fluid flush and fluid filter change they do when they do the transmission repair should take care of it. The transmission should shift just like you would expect. Mine does.

No. had it towed in. they checked the codes and that pointed to 2 solenoids. these were replaced, but still would not got into reverse without a delay of a couple seconds. Service manager called ford rep. and rep said that tranny was in the build date for the problem and should had been corrected before install but must have been missed. ford has shipped a new complete tranny. hope i will have my truck back by tuesday coming.
at first ford said tear it down, but then changed thier mind.
